Just to mention that the world currently makes absolutely no sense to ![[info]](http://l-stat.livejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif) jermynsavile but the world featured in these films does. He'd rather live there than here, but feels a little self-indulgent, having technically lived through some of it already.
And while I love absolutely everything about that, I recognise that the dark clouds were gathering. Kaftans and beads start making an appearance towards the end and though the odd visit to Marrakesh is OK, I'm as big a fan of Talitha Pol as the next man, it's a slippery slope from there to new age and it's when California meets The Sixties® that it and I part company.
I'm less enamoured by the world pictured here - not a big fan of quiffs or Aldermaston mufti - though I recognise it, and would far rather a murky brew at one of these than a Iced Tall Half Decaf Skinny Vanilla Latte excreted from any one of the machines at Starbucks.
And, talking about dark clouds, those roast chickens are, whirling innocently away, the beginning of the end ...
Even the glimpse you get of the Crowson & Sons Ltd Cheese Merchants building in Farringdon Road (demolished about three years ago for a branch of Sainsbury's and a dull office shed above) is enough to bring on palpitations... |
